That;s the way I made my narrow fall cloth pantaloons.  Normally pants have four large sections, two front and two rear.  One front piece and one rear piece are sewn together, forming the outside seam.  Procedurally you actually sew the inside seams first and then the outside seam.  In any event it seemed like a lot of extra sewing so I cut two pieces, eliminating the outside seem.  I have no idea if this is pc but some of the inventory lists include a charge for sewing up pantaloons so methods may have varied if pantaloons were a one of a kind article.  I actually got some bluish-gray close-out upholstery fabric that looked like coarse homespun and used that.  I also used my blue jeans for a pattern.  The only deviation on the blue jeans was to add an inch to the waist band, making it wider and have two buttons, one on top of the other for the waist band.  I think it gives a better fit, also in the back, if you make a deeper cut in the back the
drawstring can draw in the pants to fit the curve in the small of your back so you can forget suspenders if desired.

When I made my buckskin britches years ago, I took a pair of jeans like everyone
seems to do, but I split it at the crotch and the outer seams only, leaving just
2 halves, and eliminating the inner leg seam. I then used a running stitch with
waxed linen thread on the crotch, then overlapped and tied the outer seams with
buckskin whangs rather than stitching. Saved time and effort, and they fit
well on a horse or around camp. Anyone else do it this way?
