2)* **Art Access/Access II Galleries 2009 Exhibition Call for Entries*

Gallery Philosophy

The Art Access Gallery is one of the many programs of Art Access, a
non-profit organization. Believing that the arts are for everyone, Art
Access shows stimulating art in an inclusive setting by artists from a broad
spectrum of backgrounds and points-of-view.

Eligibility

Art Access Gallery welcomes exhibit proposals from emerging and established
artists, artists with and without disabilities and artists representing
other underserved communities. We focus on Utah artists and ask that
artwork intended for exhibit at Art Access not have been previously shown at
other venues.

Mediums

All mediums are accepted: drawing, ceramics, painting, photography,
printmaking, mixed mediums, space installations, sculpture, textiles, etc.
In 1998, Art Access added Access II, a second gallery space to accommodate
smaller exhibits, or makes possible a larger exhibit in combination with the
Art Access Gallery.

Proposal Requirements

1) a cover sheet stating your name, address, phone numbers, and medium

2) six images on a CD of recent work, with attached information indicating
name, title, medium, size, and date. (Please call prior to deadline if
requesting to submit artwork in a format other than a CD.)

3) a statement and description of the proposed exhibition (Please consider
the philosophy of the gallery as you develop this section.)

4) a brief resume that outlines your education, exhibition history, awards,
and any other relevant information

Deadline

All proposals and CD images must be postmarked or hand-delivered by July 1,

2008. Send or bring required information to: Art Access, 230 South 500
West, #125, Salt Lake City, Utah, 84101. Enclose a self-addressed stamped
envelope for the return of your CD. CDs will not be returned without this
envelope.

Exhibition Selection

A panel review committee will meet to select exhibitions for the 2009
gallery schedule. Quality of work, evidence of ability to produce proposed
exhibit, balance of mediums submitted for the season, and completion and
clarity of the proposal will all be considered. Notification will be made
by the middle of August.

Sales

If you are selected for an exhibition, the Art Access Gallery requires a 30%
commission on all works that are sold. The commissions are used to help
cover the costs of gallery programming. Work does not have to be for sale.
The gallery, a member of the Salt Lake Gallery Association, participates in
the association's Gallery Strolls, held the third Friday of each month.

Questions?

Please call Ruth Lubbers or Sheryl Gillilan at Art Access (328-0703) with
any questions or concerns as you develop your exhibit proposal.

3) *Utah Symphony Guild Children's Education*

The Utah Symphony Guild Outreach Violin and Music Education Program has been
able to reach and change the lives of children in our community through the
experience of Music. Free violin lessons are given twice a week to children
who go to the Northwest Community Center. This program is organized,
managed, financed and with all violins furnished by the volunteers of the
Utah Symphony Guild. The secret to the program is the caring of the teacher
Stacy Yu (Lion). She teaches her father's group violin program for children
- The Rainbow Program. Congratulations and many thanks to Chair Kathy
Knowlton and especially to Stacy Yu. It is possible to help this program by
attending the "Fiesta Mejicana", a fund raiser to benefit education and
musical programs for children. It will be held on Saturday, June 21st at
the home of Kathie and Chuck Horman. An unforgettable experience will be the
Garden Tour, una comda mejicana autentica y un programa, posiblemente

4) *A Giant Birthday Celebration For One Of The Country's Oldest Elephants
At Hogle Zoo!*

For years, millions of visitors to Utah's Hogle Zoo have loved seeing the
elephants, especially the three currently living at Elephant Encounter. Now
the country's second-oldest African elephant, Hogle Zoo's own Dari, is
turning 48 and the celebration is about to begin! Join Hogle Zoo Saturday
June 14, 2008 from 11 am to 2 pm for the biggest birthday Party for Dari.

On this day, Elephant Encounter will be turned into Party Central, complete
with interactive kids' crafts, African dancers and drummers and cupcakes for
the first 1,000 guests. Kids will even have a chance to sign an
elephant-sized birthday card for Dari herself. Then at 11:30 am, Hogle Zoo
keepers will present a tasty birthday treat for the elephants, a gigantic
cake in Dari's honor!

Born in 1960, Dari came to Hogle Zoo in 1967. Since then, she has delighted
several generations of Hogle Zoo guests while helping Hogle Zoo staff teach
about the importance of conservation to African elephants in the wild.
Although poaching of elephants for their ivory has declined since the 1989
"ivory ban", it remains a widespread problem in west and central Africa. A
more long-term threat to the species, however, is the reduction of habitat
available to elephants in the face of expanding human populations. At Hogle
Zoo's Elephant Encounter, people can learn about African elephants, and how
decreasing populations in the wild can be helped.

It's birthday time, but no stupid party games here - only the best for an
animal as majestic as Dari! For more information about Hogle Zoo's Party for
Dari celebration contact Community Relations Coordinator Holly Braithwaite
at (801) 584-1729 or email at hbraithwaite@???

5) *Just Days Away From History In The Making - The New Conservation
Carousel At Utah's Hogle Zoo!*

There was a time in our history when more than 10,000 carousels graced
communities across the United States. In their heyday, these beautiful rides
were constructed for children of all ages to enjoy, generation after
generation.

Each year, the Hogle Zoo supports conservation projects to carry out the
mission of education, conservation and recreation. As a help to these
conservation efforts both locally and around the world, a portion of the
proceeds from the Conservation Carousel will be used. Additionally, the new
Elephant Encounter solar panel installation made possible in part by a
partnership with Rocky Mountain Power's Blue Sky renewable energy program
will continue Hogle Zoo green efforts by potentially producing the
equivalent to the amount of energy needed to power the Conservation
Carousel. This solar energy system is grid-tied and net-metered, benefiting
not only the environment, but also local communities.

Adjacent to the current Wildlife Theatre and Elephant Encounter, the new
Oasis Plaza area is the premier spot for guests to be together with their
families. Not only is this a large and relaxing open space, Hogle Zoo
Executive Director Craig Dinsmore adds, "The Oasis Plaza will be a 'Fun
Zone' with lots of activity to enhance guests' visits, as well as great
places to just sit and enjoy the day." The Oasis Plaza is destined to be
beautiful for visitors locally, as well as helpful for conservation
globally.

Tickets for the new Conservation Carousel are $2 for non-members, $1.50 for
members; part of the proceeds go toward conservation efforts associated with
Utah's Hogle Zoo. For more information about Hogle Zoo's new Conservation
Carousel and Oasis Plaza, contact Community Relations Coordinator Holly
Braithwaite at (801) 584-1729 or email at hbraithwaite@???. The
Conservation Carousel and Oasis Plaza are sponsored in part by Rocky
Mountain Power's Blue Sky Program, Coca-Cola, Meadow Gold and Rocky Mountain
Chocolate Factory.

9) *Here and Now - Present Tense highlights current trends in Utah's art
scene*

By two o'clock in the afternoon on Saturday, April 5, a pile of broken
concrete and twisted metal was all that remained of the vacant building
located at 337 S. 400 E. -- forever and affectionately known as The 337
Project. The art phenomenon, created by over 150 artists thanks to building
owners Adam and Dessi Price, took Salt Lake City by storm. Yet even with its
demise 337 would continue to live on, somewhat vicariously, through the buzz
on the streets, artist collaborations and camaraderie, and the new,
provocative artwork that was inspired by The 337 Project and the sense of
community that arose and surrounded the project itself.

In December 2007 an invitation was extended to each individual artist
involved in The 337 Project for proposals of new artworks and installations
that reflected their post-337 perspective. Campbell Gray, Director of the
Brigham Young University Museum of Art, had already excitedly agreed to
serve as Guest Curator.

By the artists' due date in mid February, over 75 proposals for
artworks/installations had been submitted to the Salt Lake Art Center. Gray
reviewed every proposal - artist statements, text description, photographs,
sketches, digital renderings - from which he selected 22
artworks/installations, by 25 artists. This selection is felt to best
capture the diversity of media, content and styles at The 337 Project
building. Artists in the exhibition include: Trent Alvey, Hairy Baldwin,
Trent Call & Sri Whipple, Andrew Callis, Amy Caron & Margaret Willis, Craig
Cleveland, Kier Defstar, Cara Despain, Dave Doman, Trinity Forbes, Lenka
Konopasek, CJ Lester, William Lewis, Tessa Lindsey, Michael McGlothlen,
Shawn Porter, Erin & Nick Potter, Elmer Presslee, Dessi Price, Shawn
Rossiter, Zara Dawn Shallbetter, and Benjamin Wiemeyer.

In addition to the new artworks and installations, the Art Center will also
exhibit documentary photographs by Lewis Francis of The 337 Project - from
the dull, non-descript building to the transformed "art happening" - and
will screen a documentary film by The Dada Factory, produced by Davey Davis
and Allie Johnstone.

Present Tense: A Post-337 Project will certainly reflect the vast talent of
the artists in Salt Lake City as well as the excitement of a true
collaboration of curators, artists, and filmmakers who have participated in
this multi-media exhibition.

Present Tense: A Post-337 Project will be on exhibit in the Main and
Projects Galleries from June 21 through September 27, 2008. Admission is
free.

Public Opening Celebration:

Gallery Stroll Friday, June 20 from 6 to 9 p.m.

There will be a FREE shuttle service (sponsored by Nobrow Coffee and The 337
Project) running every 10 minutes between the Salt Lake Art Center and
Nobrow Coffee (315 E. 300 S.).

Gallery Hours: Tuesday - Thursday & Saturday: 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday: 11
a.m. to 9 p.m. Closed Holidays.

Admission to the Art Center is always FREE.
