1) *Utah's Hogle Zoo Wins Top Utah Tourism Honors For 2007 White Alligator*
*Campaign*
On May 14, 2008 in Salt Lake City, the Utah Tourism Industry Coalition and
Utah Office of Tourism awarded Utah's Hogle Zoo with four awards for their
summer 2007 "Ghost of the Bayou" marketing campaign, including the top "Best
of Show" award. This is the third consecutive year Hogle Zoo has taken home
honors from the Utah Office of Tourism.
Hogle Zoo won three of the awards for Best TV Ad (Ghost of the Bayou- Eye),
Best Radio Spot (Ghost of the Bayou- Trailer) and Best Specialty Item,
Poster (Asian Highlands- Scared Dog) in the category of Annual Budgets under
$250,000. The prestigious Best of Show award was selected from all of this
year's entrants, regardless of budget.
Brad Parkin, Hogle Zoo Associate Director of Marketing Services was there to
accept the award in front of other Utah marketing peers. "We take great
pride in creating marketing programs that are insightful and
attention-getting," said Parkin. "To be recognized by the State Office of
Tourism and the Utah Tourism Industry Coalition for these efforts is very
gratifying. After all, this is Utah's Hogle Zoo." Recognition should also be
given to the creative team at Richter7 who created the winning entries.

3) *Take A Spin With A Classic Twist, The New Conservation Carousel At
Hogle Zoo!*
There was a time in our history when more than 10,000 carousels graced
communities across the United States. In their heyday, these beautiful rides
were constructed for children of all ages to enjoy, generation after
generation.
After years in the making, the new Conservation Carousel and Oasis Plaza at
Hogle Zoo are finally opening! Be a part of Hogle Zoo history for the
Conservation Carousel opening ceremonies Saturday June 7, 2008 at 9:00 am
(gates open at 8:30 that morning only). As an added bonus that morning, the
very talented birds from Hogle Zoo's Meadow Gold World of Flight bird show
pull the ceremonial opening day ribbon! Other activities that day include
stilt walkers and jugglers, up-close animal presentations, and free cotton
candy to the first 100 kids through the gate.
With its timeless appeal and classic design Hogle Zoo's new Conservation
Carousel is destined to be one of the Zoo's most beloved attractions, and
promises to become an instant icon for Utah families for many years to come.
This unique attraction features 42 exotic and endangered animals, each
beautifully hand carved in the style of an authentic carousel created in the
early 1900s. Created for Hogle Zoo by Carousel Works Inc. of Mansfield Ohio,
each hand painted carousel animal took artisans 30- to 40- hours from start
to completion. Truly a majestic sight, the Conservation Carousel is a
generation-linking spot for families, as well as a way to enrich guests'
understanding of Hogle Zoo's role in addressing global threats to the
natural world.
Each year, the Hogle Zoo supports conservation projects to carry out the
mission of education, conservation and recreation. As a help to these
conservation efforts both locally and around the world, a portion of the
proceeds from the Conservation Carousel will be used. Additionally, the new
Elephant Encounter solar panel installation made possible in part by a
partnership with Rocky Mountain Power's Blue Sky renewable energy program
will continue Hogle Zoo green efforts by potentially producing the
equivalent to the amount of energy needed to power the Conservation
Carousel. This solar energy system is grid-tied and net-metered, benefiting
not only the environment, but also local communities.
Adjacent to the current Wildlife Theatre and Elephant Encounter, the new
Oasis Plaza area is the premier spot for guests to be together with their
families. Not only is this a large and relaxing open space, Hogle Zoo
Executive Director Craig Dinsmore adds, "The Oasis Plaza will be a 'Fun
Zone' with lots of activity to enhance guests' visits, as well as great
places to just sit and enjoy the day."

Plaza, contact Community Relations Coordinator Holly Braithwaite at

5) *The Salt Lake Acting Company presents SATURDAY'S VOYEUR 30th ANNIVERSARY
* *by Allen Nevins and Nancy Borgenicht!*
Contains adult material and language.
The Salt Lake Acting Company announces the new 30th Anniversary edition of
perennial favorite SATURDAY'S VOYEUR. SATURDAY'S VOYEUR 30th ANNIVERSARY by
Allen Nevins and Nancy Borgenicht will have preview performances June 4th
and 5th, 2008, with the Press Opening on Friday, June 6th at 8:00 PM at The
Salt Lake Acting Company (SLAC). VOYEUR is scheduled to play Wednesdays
through Sundays through August 17th, 2008.
This year's SATURDAY'S VOYEUR maintains the "variety show" format of last
year, allowing it to visit a myriad of comic mileposts in a sleek and
unbridled fashion. There is, of course, visitations by the top (or, some may
insist, bottom) newsmakers of the year. Appearances by VOYEUR-ized
celebrities such as Chris Buttars, Marie Osmond, Kurt Bestor, Ralph Becker
(Mr. Becker's Gayborhood, with apologies to Fred Rogers), Gayle Ruzicka,
Sandy Mayor Tom Dolan (to the tune of "On Broadway", of course), Mitt,
Governor and Mrs. Huntsman, Miss Utah Jill Stevens, Dr. Mario Capecchi, and
many more, will enrich and enliven VOYEUR's satiric portrait of "life
elevated". Topics to be targeted include the rededication of the Capitol
building, the Blue Boutique brouhaha, the new and "improved" liquor laws,
the Utah teacher's plight, certain racially charged slips of the tongue,
bagging rhinos for BYU, alco-pops, vengeance for vouchers and much, much
more. There are also selected appearances by VOYEUR denizens of the past;
including the famous missionary medley we've come to know and love and,
maybe even a quick appearance by last year's star, a certain R. Anderson.
Thirty years and going strong--- SATURDAY'S VOYEUR--- proudly polluting Utah
values since 1978.

6) *Bountiful/Davis Art Center Presents Two Concurrent Exhibits*
Featuring 3 Professional Utah Artists And "The State Street Project: A
Portrait Of Utah"
The Bountiful/Davis Art Center is pleased to announce two new exhibits
running concurrently at the Center. Starting with an opening reception at 7
pm on Friday, May 23rd and running through June 16th, 2008, both exhibits
will be on view in the Center's 3 galleries. Refreshments will be served at
the opening reception.
Through the work of 8 artists The State Street Project: A Portrait of Utah
attempts to present a portrait of the state of Utah at the intersection of
historical documentation and personal self-expression. The show is composed
of paintings, photos, and mixed-media from artists who applied their
personal interpretation, senses and experiences using Highway 89 as
representative cross section of the state.
The 8 artists involved in The State Street Project are: Namon Bills, Steven
Stradley, Justin Wheatley, Steph Johnsen, Steve Hardman, Sarah Bigelow,
Shawn Stradley and Liz Wilson.
In the companion exhibit Utah artists Linny Brown, Jinny Lee Snow and Olivia
Celine Glascock will exhibit 10 to 12 pieces each. The works of Brown and
Glascock are in mixed-media while Snow works in fabric.
The Bountiful/Davis Art Center is honored to bring the work of these
talented artists to the community. These works were selected from entries
submitted through our annual exhibitions program, and we hope residents will
visit the Center to experience these beautiful and thought provoking works
of art.
The Bountiful/Davis Art Center is open on Monday, from 5 to 9 pm, Tuesday
through Friday from 10 am to 6 pm, and Saturday from 2 to 5 pm. The Center
is closed on Sundays and Holidays.

7) *Deer Valley Music Festival Re-Programs opera due to Construction*
I-80 Closures will affect traffic during Deer Valley Music Festival
Utah Symphony | Utah Opera has announced the cancellation of HMS Pinafore at
the Deer Valley Music Festival (DVMF) on Saturday, August 9, 2008 due to
UDOT construction on I-80. The performance of the same opera on Friday,
August 8th will be replaced with a Tribute to Gilbert & Sullivan featuring
highlights from Mikado, Pirates of Penzance, The Gondoliers and HMS
Pinafore.
UDOT recently announced they will close I-80 westbound through Parleys
Canyon on Saturday, August 9 at 4:00 pm for 24 hours, which will keep
commuters from leaving from Park City unless they go through Provo Canyon.
UDOT will be replacing bridges at Lambs Canyon and East Canyon during this
time.
UDOT will complete the replacement of these bridges on Saturday, August 16,
2008 starting at 7:00 pm closing all lanes on I-80 eastbound through Parleys
Canyon. Fortunately, this closure will have little affect on patrons driving
to Park City to see Gladys Knight perform with the Utah Symphony at 7:30 pm
that evening. As it has become tradition, most patrons usually arrive early
to find a good spot on the hill and enjoy their picnic.
With all the activities Park City has to offer such as shopping, golfing and
hiking, patrons arriving extra early won't have a problem keeping busy until
the concert begins. The hill at Deer Valley Resort will also open early at
4:30 pm to accommodate patrons who wish to find a prime spot for the
potentially sold-out concert. Westbound traffic through Parleys Canyon will
not be affected following the concert with Gladys Knight.
For questions regarding UDOT construction, please visit
www.udot.utah.gov/innovate80 or call 1-888-I80-UDOT. Refunds and exchanges
for HMS Pinafore on Saturday, August 9 can be made by calling 801-533-NOTE.
Tickets can be purchased by calling (801) 355-ARTS (355-2787),
1-888-451-2787, in person at the Abravanel Hall box office, or by visiting

8) *My Kid Could Paint That On June 4th*
Sundance Institute Documentary Film Series Wraps The 2007-2008 Season with a
Free Screening Of My Kid Could Paint That On June 4th
An exploration of abstract art, the media's ability to create and destroy
celebrity, and role the documentary filmmaking plays in the lives of its
subjects.
The 2007-2008 Sundance Institute Documentary Series concludes on Wednesday,
June 4th, with the documentary MY KID COULD PAINT THAT, directed by Amir
Bar-Lev. A film that premiered to critical and audience acclaim at the 2007
Sundance Film Festival, MY KID COULD PAINT THAT chronicles the media frenzy
surrounding four-year-old Marla Olmstead and invites its audience to
determine whether she is an artistic genius or an exploited child at the
center of a fraud. Presented in association with the Park City Film Series,
the free screening starts at 7 p.m. at the Jim Santy Auditorium in the Park
City Library, 1255 Park Avenue. The film's director, Amir Bar-Lev will be in
attendance and will be available for a Q&A after the screening.
In MY KID COULD PAINT THAT, director Amir Bar-Lev traces four-year-old
Marla's rapid ascent to international fame as a "budding Picasso" and her
fall after a "60 Minutes" segment suggested Marla was not the creator of her
expensive paintings. Five months before the exposé, Bar-Lev began filming
Marla and her family as a part of documentary exploring child celebrity and
the meaning of abstract art. As his film's focus becomes the center of a
controversy, Bar-Lev attempts to uncover whether her paintings are the
creations of an art prodigy or the work of an overly-ambitious and
manipulative father. The end result is a film that takes an introspective
look at a family, the media's ability to create and destroy celebrity, and
the role documentary filmmaking plays in the lives of its subjects.
The Sundance Institute Documentary Film Series is a free monthly screening
series that presents some of the most compelling nonfiction films to come
out of the previous year's Sundance Film Festival. The Sundance Institute
Documentary Film Series is presented in association with the Park City Film
Series.
Next month the SUNDANCE INSTITUTE OUTDOOR FILM FESTIVAL kicks off with a
screening of the classic Coen Brothers' film, RAISING ARIZONA in Park City
on July 11th.
Running July 11 – August 27, all SUNDANCE INSTITUTE OUTDOOR FILM FESTIVAL
screenings are held on Mondays at The Gallivan Center, 239 South Main
Street, in Salt Lake City, Wednesdays at the Eccles Stage at the Sundance
Resort, North Fork Provo Canyon, and Fridays at City Park on Park Avenue in
Park City. Admission to all screenings is free, and tickets or reservations
are not required. All screenings begin at sundown, or approximately 9:00
p.m. For more information call 435.658.3456 or visit the Institute website

10) *Cedar City Canine Chosen to Share the Stage With Brian Vaughn*
After two competitive dog auditions, a local canine has been chosen to
co-star with Brian Vaughn this summer at the Utah Shakespearean Festival.
Jake was selected out of a pool of auditioning dogs to star as Crab in The
Two Gentlemen of Verona.
Any theatre veteran will say that the two things to avoid onstage are
animals and children, but director Jesse Berger is excited about the
prospect of working with a live dog. "I think live dogs are more fun, and I
think Shakespeare intended for there to be a live dog in the play," said
Berger.
Fifteen local dogs turned out for the first set of canine auditions held on
February 23, 2008 in the Festival Randall L. Jones Theatre. Festival
Production Manager Raymond P. Inkel conducted the auditions. Inkel had each
dog perform tricks and pose for photographs. The photos were then shown to
Berger who selected three dogs for call back auditions with Vaughn when the
actor arrived earlier this May.
Jake is a mutt, and Wegner says that she has no idea what breed of dog he
is. He was a stray that Wegner rescued off the street in August of 2002 when
Jake was only eight months old.
According to Berger, Crab is supposed to be a mutt with attitude. Which
makes Jake perfect for the role, at least physically. "We are still working
on the attitude," said Berger. "Jake is a little too sweet. The character is
supposed to be a little more crabby."
Wegner has never seen Jake rehearse because when she is at rehearsal Jake
can't focus because he is too busy looking for her. "Out of all the dogs
that I have had I would say that Jake is a true mama's boy," said Wegner. "I
hear that he does well in rehearsal when I am not there, but I don't know.
Hopefully I can attend a performance."
The Two Gentlemen of Verona performs in repertoire with five other plays
Monday through Saturday from June 19 to August 30 at the Utah Shakespearean
Festival (300 West Center Street, Cedar City, UT 84720). Performances are at
2 p.m. in the Auditorium Theatre and 8 p.m. in the Adams Shakespeare
Theatre. Tickets range from $22 to $60 and can be purchased at
www.bard.organd 1-800-PLAYTIX.
The summer season also includes Edmond Rostand's Cyrano de Bergerac,
Moliere's The School For Wives, Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew and
Othello, and the popular musical Fiddler on the Roof.

A gay, African-American man raised in the rural, segregated South of the
1950s, Dalee escaped to the West Coast to live life openly and proudly,
arriving in Los Angeles in the late ..70s, where he achieved great
professional and personal success, amassing a wealth of friends by virtue of
his gregarious nature. His life changed when he learned of his HIV status,

In an already controversial new book out later this month, Who Owns

president and director of the Art Institute of Chicago -- James Cuno argues
