Latino Youth to Learn More about the Boy Scouts of America
SALT LAKE CITY The Boy Scouts of America, Scoutreach Program and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) are organizing a day of training and activities for the sixty four Latino LDS wards and branches in the Great Salt Lake Council.
WHEN: Saturday, May 10, 2008
WHERE: 3045 West Bernina Drive (5855 South) Taylorsville, Utah
TIME: 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM
WHO: Latino LDS Leaders and youth
Richard Aird, Chairman for the Scoutreach Committee said Our goal is to help Latinos catch the vision of what the partnership between Scouting and the LDS Church can do to help the youth. Currently, half of the sixty wards and branches have active units. The challenge in the Latino community is training and leadership. Unlike, in traditional units Scouting has not been passed from generation to generation allowing for continuity and great leadership.
The Great Salt Lake Council in partnership with the LDS Church is committed to reaching out to every Latino youth through their local LDS Latino wards/branches. Speakers from the LDS Church and the Boys Scouts of America will address the leaders and youth. Activities (climbing wall, Pinewood Derby, First Aid, Knots and more) are scheduled as well as training on how to start new units.
